By altering the mix of reinforcing materials, manufacturers of both wood and composite sticks are able to produce sticks with varying degrees of stiffness. This mix of materials specifies the shock absorption qualities, feel and power of a particular model produced. In effect manufacturers produce a wide range of models to suit a range of players and abilities by varying this mix of reinforcing materials.

Advanced players in general prefer a stiffer stick for increased power.
We suggest that less advanced players should look for a less rigid stick. This will ensure better ball control and shock absorption. The nature of the materials used in the construction of sticks these days means there is no longer the distinction between the heavy defenders stick and light attackers stick. With the low weight of composite materials, stiff powerful sticks can be produced that are light and can help speed up reactions and assist in flicking.

Carbon: Stiffness & Power
Kevlar: Shock Absorbtion, Vibration Reduction
Fibreglass: Strength, Durability & Power
Ceramic: Strength and Vibration Reduction.
